This bowl originates from a chandelier that was blown before chandeliers were electrified.
This bowl is an authentic hand blown antique piece and so the glass may have some blowing imperfections, these imperfections add to the charm and style.
As an antique piece we would remind customers that there may be age related nibbles on antique and vintage stock and this must be remembered when purchasing.
Restoring a chandelier is akin to restoring a piece of history and the same care and passion should be used as when a work of art, antique furniture or classic car is restored as chandeliers are also part of our history. Whether your chandelier is sentimental to you as an individual/family or the chandelier has significant age it is still wrapped in the history of time and for that reason should be shown respect and reverence, giving the chandelier the chance to show you the elegance as it would have appeared when first crafted.
Using original chandelier parts from related era's allows you to maintain the historical importance of the chandelier so that the pieces are in keeping with the design and creativity of period - this is the foremost importance of using original parts. Sometimes it will not be possible due to the rarity of the part and then you may need a piece made - before you follow this route please contact us - not all our stock is shown on our website - if we are unable to find a suitable chandelier part from either our own stocks or from contacts we will then be able to assist in having bespoke chandelier pieces made for your. Our glass blowers and glass workers use traditional methods ensuring they are sympathetic to the individual chandelier.
From a financial point of view using original age appropriate pieces allows the chandelier to retain it's value whereas replacing with a large amount of reproduction chandelier parts, mass produced or inappropriate chandelier parts can decrease the value of your chandelier significantly.
Remember also, when cleaning your chandelier the brass parts should retain their age related patina, yes you want to remove the dust and dirt, but you do NOT want to remove the patina. The patina is built up over time and is a testimony to the age of your chandelier.
