When choosing your electrical cable there are elements that must be taken into account; whether your lighting project requires 2 core or 3 core cable, the inner core required - 0.75mm or 0.50mm, wattage and ampage needed and the style of cable required.

Whilst we are a lighting company you may find our electrical cables appropriate for other projects, dependant on the cable chosen*.

  • 3 core cable comprises live, neutral and earth conductors - coloured brown for live, blue for neutral and yellow/green for earth

  • 0.75mm cable is 6 amp rate - up to  1440 watts*

One of the first things to remember when restoring your chandelier is to suspend the chandelier do NOT rest the weight of your chandelier on the arms, they are very delicate and not designed to take the full weight of the chandelier.

At King's Chandelier Services Ltd we are often asked by those starting out on the antique crystal chandelier restoration path about removing the chandelier arm from the metal cup at the base of the arm and returning it to this cup - how to remove the cup and how to reset the chandelier arm.

Invariably on the antique chandeliers, and some more modern ones, the white "cement" holding the arm in place is plaster of paris.  To remove the cup takes patience and hot water so be careful not to burn yourself.  Remove the arm that you wish to repair from the gallery holding all the arms in place on the chandelier, and remove any electrical cables etc that may be exposed. Immerse the chandelier cup into very hot water allowing the plaster of paris to soften, this may take some time, as the plaster of paris softens you will be able to gently tease the plaster of paris out of the cup thus removing the arm from the chandelier cup.

Once you have removed the cup clean any residue off of the arm and out of the cup as these need to be clean before resetting the repaired or replacement arm in the cup.

To reset the arm in the cup mix up the plaster of paris following the manufacturers instructions, place some plaster of paris at the base of the cup for the arm to settle into and then pack plaster of paris into the cup around the base of the arm - this is where you are going to need to take care to make sure that your arm remains in the correct position and does not tilt to either side or forward or backward - support will need to be given to the arm to make sure that this does not happen as it will push the plaster of paris out of position which will then set in this way resulting in the arm sitting incorrectly when you return it to the chandelier gallery.

Please visit our restoration page for helpful vidoes showing how to rewire your chandelier arm.
